Ohhh…Easy Come, Easy Go

Odin was quite happy with the arrangement with Stetson, but barn management wasn’t. Stetson was pulled from Odin’s pasture two days after his arrival out of fear that Odin would be a bad influence on Stetson. It was all quite a disappointment for us humans but Odin seems to be taking it all in stride. Alone again, it means more attention and treats from Susan and I.

With the weather turning a bit cooler, sitting with Odin has been a more pleasant task. Real feel has only been in the 90*’s and we’ve been able to get him back on track a bit. Recently, I’ve spent time following him while he grazes. He’s getting used to me tagging along again and is willing to graze now within 6-10 feet of me while I just sit in the grass with him. Sitting with Odin, the silence and patience required, communicating from the heart without words, reminds me of what Atiye from the Turkish TV Show, ‘The Gift’, once said,

“…Learning how to share the silence, how to communicate without talking. It takes effort to hear the voices of the heart.”

Check out this sweet video of Odin enjoying his brushing until he accidentally put the brush in his mouth. You can see his reaction to that, it must not have felt good, so he took pause to re-evaluate the situation. Next time, I’ll bring a softer brush. It is my hope that as he acclimates to the brush we’ll be able to use it further down his face and then eventually begin to work toward his body.
