The Colt Within

A while back I left a large red gym ball in the holding area down between lower and kentucky barn and yesterday, even though we’ve been playing the two step with Odin (see previous posts) I took a chance and casually let it roll in to Odin’s pasture. I had no idea what his reaction would be, but given the slope of the hill, it just rolled on by him without him associating it with me and he had absolutely no reaction. Whew! He never ceases to amaze me. He was unfazed by the big red ball, it didn’t cause him to catapult himself across the field. I was so happy!

Today, as I usually do on Saturdays, I went to spend time with him after cleaning up his barn and pasture, but before I sat down, I brought the ball back up the hill and away from the trees, where it had landed yesterday. We spent time in the present moment as we usually do. It didn’t take him long to come on over for some treats, but he scared himself with a carrot 🥕 that fell on the ground out of his mouth and gave himself some additional distance from me. At a distance, we enjoyed the cooler weather and the sun.

To my surprise and delight, as we sat quietly, Odin became more interested in the ball lying in the field, than me! It was such a sweet moment that truly warmed my heart! I never expected Odin to find his inner colt again, but he did, and I even caught a few moments of it on video. Enjoy this one…
