Increased Safety

As Susan and I brought Odin into the present moment yesterday, he seemed quite his usual self at first…he did his usual approach, investigating what kind of treats we had for him! But then things began to go a little bit differently…he seemed very relaxed this day, content to just hang out near us for a few minutes. He then became usual again, demonstrating his good bathroom habits…then things turned new again, too relaxed to really eat at the usual fervent pace…he moseyed around, stopped to gaze and yawn several times…and then the moment came…he pawed the dirt and laid down to take a roll right in front of us. Of course Susan and I were in such shock this was happening it brought us right out of our meditative state, each of us reaching for our phones to record the moment. I wish I had been recording all along because I think it may have gone differently if I hadn’t distracted myself but I think in the end, maybe a day late, the message came through as I rewatched the video this morning.

Take a moment to watch the video, you’ll have to imagine the laying down and rolling part, I missed that, but you can certainly see that his feelings of safety are increasing.

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but when I watched the video back today in a state where I could be completely present to him, I felt reminded of all of the groin discomfort he must experienced in the rodeo from being cinched up. It made me wonder if that’s part of what prompted this moment?

I can’t help but also remember that the beauty of present moment healing spaces such as the Trust Technique is that they allow for an unraveling/releasing of the past allowing us to become more deeply present. This works for both animals and humans alike.
